Recommendations
:
The module "Film & Video 1" is the input module to all other modules offered in the field of film and video. Successful completion of this module is a prerequisite for attending all other modules in the field of film and video. The compulsory design course (GK) and the compulsory workshop course (WK) contained in the module must be passed.
Content, Topics
:
The aim of the design course "Fundamentals of Filmic Design" is to develop an understanding of the concept of time (which usually also implies the dimension of space) in the imaging media. This is done by considering the parameters of narration, process, space, movement, mis-en-scene and montage (mainly as elements of cinematic language).
This theoretical background is then applied in practical cinematic works. In addition to teaching the basic technical basics of camera operation, lighting, and sound recording, the focus is on the principle of how a scene is depicted in image and sound using a camera and editing. Perspective and camera settings, resolution, editing and montage theories are essential aspects of this exercise, as are the possibilities of sound recording and editing.
The design course is complemented by the workshop course "Digital Montage 1", in which students receive an introduction to the technical basics of non-linear montage and digital image processing. After an introduction to the input and output of moving images in non-linear digital editing systems and technical standards of signal processing, the students receive an introduction to the basics of media management, hard editing, synchronization and simple sound montage.
Aims of the course
:
After successfully completing the module, students will have basic knowledge of central technical and creative techniques of cinematic narration.
Requirements for ECTS
:
Passing the module examination (student research project), active participation in at least 85 % of the courses.
Workload in full hours (Contact/self study)
:
180 (88/92)
