Lehr-/Lerninhalte: This is a course for those who seek to make simple, attractive and eective designs. No conceptual highlights or superclean graphic designs, but bold and colourful posters, illustrations, logo‘s and packaging designs. I’ll do my best to inspire you showing designs I‘ve collected over the years, varying from 50’s kids toys packaging to cartoon title pages, or packaging designs from China to gigposters from America. Infographics, yers, movie posters and lots more. In this course we will make several designs that are a cross-over between illustration and graphic design. That means a lot of drawing combined with typography. A great deal of the designs will be done by hand, crafting fonts or illustrations using pen, pencil and paper combined with whatever materials you can get your hands on that will do the job. The raw drawings, stencils or sketches will be transfered using Illustrators’ trace tool to convert them to vector based artworks. From here on we can nalize the designs using software as Illustrator or Photoshop. What you’ll be needing in this course is material to draw with such as pencils, neliners, brushes or ink. Paper, a laptop and if you have a digital camera to photograph drawings and get them on your computer. Software: Photoshop and Illustrator. We’ll try to get our hands dirty during this course so besides the ‘ordinary’ drawing tools mentioned above, bring materials as paint, spraycans, liquid water colour and stu to make stencils or stamps. This can vary from foam to potatoes, cardboard to plastics. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ME I am a 36 year old freelance illustrator and graphic designer working and living in Amsterdam. After graduating as an illustrator from the Willem de Kooning Academy of Arts in Rotterdam I’ve been working both as a freelance designer as well as working for various design agencies in The Netherlands and Uganda. In my work the line between illustration and graphic design is often thin as I combine hand drawn images with typography to create posters, yers, identities, covers, websites and lots more. I like bold and colourful images, although sometimes simple in concept these images have a strong communicative value. There’s a certain honesty that comes from these designs, a ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of quality. I’m always scanning my surroundings (both live and online) for posters, packaging design, logo’s and illustrations that I feel stand out of the majority of designs around us. And there’s the everlasting search for ‘graphics’ around me found in buildings, construction sites, harbours or airports. I take photo’s of these areas and use them as inspiration for illustrations whereby I often simplify the real world to create my own, graphically composed version of the truth. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 40ROVERS.NET
